GoDaddyGoDaddy

Cheap intro, brutal renewal, relentless upsells

[01] Verdict

GoDaddy's .com first-year promo lands around $0.99–$11.99 depending on the week. Renewal is approximately $21.99/year before the "ICANN fee" and required privacy add-on push it higher. By year two you're paying double Cloudflare or Porkbun for an identical product.

The checkout is the worst in the industry: pre-selected hosting trials, email upsells, SSL nags, premium DNS, "website security," and Office 365 trials are all toggled on. Saying no requires clicking through five screens. Renewal auto-charges your card at the full rate without warning.

GoDaddy is independent (NYSE: GDDY) and still the world's largest registrar by volume. The infrastructure is competent. The ethics are the problem.
