DigitalOceanIndie

Developer-friendly cloud, fair pricing, no surprises

[01] Verdict

DigitalOcean's entry Droplet is $4/month for 512MB RAM, 1 vCPU, 10GB SSD, 500GB transfer. The $6 1GB tier is more practical. Pricing is flat, monthly, and predictable — no renewal jumps, no surprise overages within plan limits.

Documentation is the best in the industry, the API is clean, and managed databases / App Platform / Spaces fill out a credible AWS-lite stack. The acquisition of Cloudways in 2022 added a managed-WordPress layer.

Bandwidth overages bill at $0.01/GB beyond the plan allowance, which adds up at scale. Hetzner is genuinely cheaper if you don't need US-centric latency or the polish.
